Our Needs

Archdiocesan Loan

$125,000 – Total amount of Archdiocesan Loan for our 2017 renovation project.
$45,016 – Annual principal and interest payments.

This annual loan payment prevents us from using these funds for:

  • Programs, ministries, and other improvements that directly benefit our parish and local community members.
  • Building savings to use for emergencies or other major or ongoing maintenance needs.
  • Meeting our annual expenses.

Archdiocesan To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign

$162,000 – Our fair share owed to the archdiocesan To Teach Who Christ Is campaign.

This archdiocesan effort is used to support parishes’ Catholic education and Faith Formation. We were asked to support this campaign while we were in the middle of our own Raise the Roof campaign. The Archdiocese not only loaned us the money to complete our campaign project but also, kindly, allowed us to defer our participation in paying off our asked for, and fair, share until our own most immediate needs were met.

Severe Facility Problems

Old School Gym Windows

  • Deteriorated Windows: third story wooden windows, that are original to the 1948 structure, are decayed and no longer protect the building from wind and water.
  • Dangerous Water Damage: the leaking windows have caused water damage and rusted the floor’s rebar. This is a dangerous situation as some of these have dropped through into the auditorium below.

Worn Out Roofs

  • Old Convent Roof: rented to Catholic Charities, this building provides parish income, but its 20-year-old roof is worn out and has needed many repairs that serve as only temporary fixes. Roof inspectors found water saturated insulation indicating a leak that can lead to further interior damage and potential mold problems.
  • Powerhouse Roof: the 1940’s era roof of the smokestack building is the power source for the parish and school and is in poor shape. The building also houses equipment for AT&T, to whom we rent the smokestack.

Decaying Garden Wall

Our Garden Wall was part of the back wall of our original church and encloses the garden next to the rectory. Its crumbling brick is in very bad shape and an eyesore.

Other Facility Issues

Worn Entrance Flooring
The 15th Street and 59th Court church entrances were not updated when the church was renovated. The carpet and tile floors are worn out, in disrepair, and are a stark contrast to the church’s beauty.

Church Exterior Issues
Few recognize our building as a church due to its 1960’s middle school heritage and architecture. The sign above the door is not enough to attract attention and show that the building is a place of worship.

Church Annex Problems
The Annex’s carpeting and original linoleum flooring are worn out. Also, the old school lockers, classrooms, and blocked-room atmosphere create an outdated and confined environment for our children’s religious education classes and other church meetings
and activities.

Reducing debt allows funds to be available to enhance our ministry to members and our community.
