Our Needs

MAIN LEVEL CHURCH

Our worship space is designed to draw our attention to the focal point of our liturgy, which is Jesus Christ truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Our faith in the Real Presence is our identity as Catholic Christians. However, both the visible space and hidden infrastructure are worn. They need care and attention so that they continue to serve our needs today and far into the next 150 years.

Altar Area (Sanctuary)

Despite all the updates we have faithfully accomplished over the past 30 years, our sanctuary is showing wear and damage that draws attention away from the reverential front and focal point of our worship space.

  • The dome, or apse area, shows increasing areas of damaged plaster and peeling, chipping, and fading paint.
  • Some of this damage may be caused by underlying insulation issues that need to be investigated and then addressed, if needed.
  • The cracking, chipping and continual dulling of the already light-colored surface is unsightly and degrades the beauty of the altar area and dome.
  • At the direction of the Bishop and Diocesan Building Commission, we are making the sanctuary handicap accessible.
  • Underfoot, the altar platform's carpeting is old and worn.

Main Seating Area (Nave)

The many years of normal wear and tear is increasingly visible to our members and guests in the nave of the church too.

  • Most visible are areas of damaged, cracked, chipping, and flaking plaster and paint.
  • The nave's carpeting is worn, torn, rumpling, and fraying. This presents a tripping hazard and detracts from the aesthetic beauty of the church.
  • Audibly, our old sound system is noticeably inadequate. It doesn't relay sound well to the back, which makes it hard for worshipers in those pews to fully participate at the Masses.

LOWER LEVEL CHURCH

The basement, which serves as our group meeting, activity, social space, and school cafeteria requires some minor improvements.

For example, except for a small kitchen air-conditioning unit, the basement doesn't have adequate air conditioning. This makes parish activities there very uncomfortable during warmer days and months.

Allowing damage and wear to get worse is poor stewardship and not how our parish manages that which is entrusted to our ongoing care.
