Our Needs

School Improvements

We know our school provides an exceptional Christ-centered education, but some parents may not be able to look past our facility's conditions when choosing their children’s education. We don’t want our building to be a reason a child is deprived of the quality Christian education that we provide.

Classrooms

  • Our old, leaky, and drafty windows are not cost or energy efficient.
  • Ceiling tiles are discolored and stained.
  • Our old, outdated flooring tile is cracked and chipped.
  • Many of the walls are discolored, cracked, chipped, and flaking.
  • We recently added security locks and window coverings but many doors still need to be refinished or replaced.
  • Our classrooms lack adequate, secure, in-room storage for frequently used equipment and instructional materials.

Second Floor Lockers

Our upper grades were moved to the second floor which doesn’t have lockers. Student coats, backpacks, and belongings are stored on classroom hooks, creating clutter and safety and security issues.

Specialty Spaces

  • Comparable, but more modern schools that we compete with, have important, convenient, and useful specialty spaces.
  • Our school lacks adequate work rooms, small group student learning spaces, and small team or parent meeting spaces.
  • And, our exceptional robotics program doesn't have a dedicated room.

Restrooms

  • Our restrooms, original to each building, need major renovation.
  • Many have outdated plumbing fixtures and flooring and are not handicap accessible.
  • They also have cracked and chipped walls that are both unsightly and unsafe.

Kitchen

  • Operating and maintaining our old kitchen appliances is difficult and expensive.
  • The stoves are almost 50 years old – they predate the 1974-era kitchen.
  • The aging, chipped, and cracked flooring is both unsightly and unsafe.

HVAC System

  • We have replaced much of the building’s HVAC system over the years, but some units are almost 20 years old – well beyond their expected lifespan.
  • These older units are increasingly expensive to operate, repair, and maintain.
  • The units are not very energy efficient, which is both an affront to our desire to be good environmental stewards and a source of unnecessary energy costs.

New Gymnasium

  • Our full-sized floor was warped and cracked from water damage that required repairs to keep it usable. Those maintenance funds must be replaced.
  • The old, discolored wall coverings give an outdated, dirty appearance.

Old Gymnasium

  • The roof has exceeded its expected life and shows signs of impending leakage.
  • If the roof fails before being replaced, we will incur costs for interior water damage.

Stairways & Hallways

  • Our school stairway's metal treads are warping and separating which is a safety hazard and liability issue.
  • The hallway flooring and walls are in good condition, but exposed vents and pipes along the ceiling create an unsightly, industrial appearance.

Public Address System

  • The 70-year-old public address system works only partially and inconsistently. It cuts out and is hard to hear in many areas.
  • This prevents clear, regular and, most importantly, emergency communication with students and staff.

Storage

  • Both our athletic and IT departments lack convenient and secure storage for some of our school’s most valuable and essential equipment.
    Playground
  • The playground is worn out from the continual use and enjoyment of generations of children.
  • The rubber surface is torn and cracked.
  • The equipment is well-worn and, in some respects, unsafe.

Child Care Ministry Center Improvements

Our Child Care Ministry is a wonderful service for our church and local community. It  provides needed support for working parents, offers us outreach opportunities to new families, and serves as an excellent future enrollment source for our school.

Larger, Consolidated Spaces

  • Our seven childcare classrooms serve 80 children in our infants, toddlers, Little Warriors and Big Warriors programs.
  • Childcare demand exceeds our space.  We have been forced to turn students and parents away.
  • Our childcare rooms are spread across the facility. This is inefficient and creates  logistical and potential safety issues:
     - Two classrooms are on opposite sides of the school building.
     - Five classrooms are grouped together in the church basement.
     - Our large-motor indoor play area is located on the church’s second floor.

Fire Protection System

We cannot expand our Child Care Ministry within our old Social Room and Sunday School rooms because they lack the required fire protection and sprinkler systems.

Adequate Play Spaces

  • Our Child Care Ministry children don’t have adequate play space.
  • The fenced-in area south of the school is too small to accommodate our enrollment.
  • Our younger children play area options are: indoors, in the less-than-adequate outdoor space, or on the worn-out school playground that is much too large for them.

Dedicated Kitchen

  • Our Child Care Ministry suffers because it does not have a dedicated kitchen.
  • Using the school kitchen to store and prepare childcare program food means the food must be delivered to the three different classroom areas three times a day for morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack.
  • This arrangement is inefficient, creates unnecessary work, and often conflicts with school food preparation and service.

School Endowment

  • The Christian education of children has been and will continue to be a key part of Immanuel’s efforts to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing… and teaching.”
  • We need a school endowment fund within our Immanuel Foundation. This will ensure that we are good stewards of the investments we are now making in upgrading our facility.
