Our Needs
Church Needs
More Prominent & Protective Main Entrance
- Our front entrance area doesn’t represent our warm and welcoming community.
- Most church visitors don’t readily recognize our main entrance because it doesn’t proclaim, “This is where our church and house of God is”.
- The entrance’s unprotected walkway is inconvenient and potentially dangerous in poor and icy weather, especially for the elderly and mobility-challenged.
- Our welcome desk, recessed in the lobby, requires our weekday greeter to get up and walk to the front entrance to let people in and welcome them to our church.
School Needs
Classroom Space
- Good Shepherd School has seen unprecedented growth in recent years due to public school Covid restrictions and teaching content, and our school’s great and growing reputation for education excellence rooted in moral values and our Christian faith.
- We’re in desperate need of classroom space to meet current and future student needs.
- Creatively converting various building spaces into classrooms means we haven’t yet had to turn deserving students and families away, but we soon may have to do so.
Conference Space
The school lacks private conference space where our staff and board can meet.
Improved Restrooms
The original school area’s aging restrooms have outdated fixtures and furnishings and are not handicapped accessible.
Common Needs
A Large, Multi-Use Gymnasium
- Our small, 49ft x 49ft school gym is used as the school cafeteria and for almost all of our church and school fellowship activities.
- Large demand for this room causes ongoing scheduling conflicts and having to refuse some space requests.
- All school basketball, volleyball, and other games must be held off-site because the gym is too small, the courts are not regulation size, and there is no safe off-floor seating.
- Not having a large enough gym or other gathering space prevents us from hosting all-church, all-school, and large community recreational, sporting, and social events such as adult basketball and volleyball games and leagues.
Smaller Group Fellowship Space
Apart from our “too small or too big, one-size- fits-all” gym, we don’t have any fellowship or smaller-sized meeting and activity spaces.
Adult Meeting Spaces
- Our school and church lack adequate and appropriately sized and furnished adult volunteer and ministry meeting spaces.
This creates ongoing room scheduling conflicts, limits the ministry opportunities we can offer, and limits parental involvement as school volunteers.
A Safe Space During Storms
Importantly, we lack an adequate safe space for church and school occupants in case of a catastrophic weather event such as a tornado.
