Our Plans to Refresh and Improve Our Beautiful Church
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church was designed to be a beautiful and reverent church. And it is. We have a wonderful and solid building that has served us well over the years and has been very well maintained. We were blessed with a new roof thanks to our insurance coverage after the storm on May 12th, 2022, which will serve us well for many decades to come.
Yet, as with any aging building, and a building that hasn’t undergone any major remodeling and repairs in almost 30 years, it’s once again time to update our church in a way that glorifies God, meets our current needs, and honors our heritage – in time for our 150th Anniversary!
Our History of Improvements
Over the years we have made many updates and changes to our worship space in our efforts to care for our beautiful church.
- We removed our ornate back altar and replaced it with a wooden pedestal to house our ornate tabernacle.
- Matching Rose-designed pedestals were added a few years ago to support our statues of St. Kateri Tekakwitha and St. Francis of Assisi. Enthroned above the tabernacle the statue of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary was added to remind us that Mary our Mother is the first tabernacle of the New Testament.
- In the early years of the new church, stained glass windows were added in the apse.
- We extended our altar platform forward into the church's main seating area and purchased and installed a new, matching, wooden, main altar, ambo, and tabernacle platform. Many years later a crucifix was also added.
- In 1994 the interior was repainted the two transepts renovated where Saint Joseph with the child Jesus, and Our Lady of the Immaculate Heart adorn the Holy Family Shrine. The Pieta Statue, with Mary cradling her dead Son, draws us near to pray within the mystery of Our Lady of Sorrows.
These good changes were all done to move people closer to the altar and to encourage more full and active participation of the gathered assembly in our liturgies.
